Won't boot after install
I have installed the XP Pro and it works fine but when I try MCE it won't boot the first time after the initial install. When it says Windows XP and I have a copy of XP pro here that when I install it works fine. But whenever I try the MCE it won't boot after the initial install. Thanks for any help on this.

Don't know what I did but it all just works! didn't install initrd. The only thing I did was to look at lilo & reinstall it, that must have been the problem, didn't think I changed anything. I'm willing to bet you're either on a 2.4 kernel or you did install an initrd. Could you please include the output of these

What strikes me as strange is that I can always boot with the the install disks and install flawlessly, but after booting as above, the /dev/hda2 partition is unmountable when I start up again with the install disks. Is the /dev/hda2 fs being trashed as displayed in the above boot messages?

Oddly enough, it's the "devalias" command :) I don't suppose there's some IDE equivalent to probe-scsi-all that I need to run, or something like that, is there? Boot back to the install and switch to a the shell console (ALT+F2) and use "dmesg | more" to see if you can find some info about your IDE.
